WELCOME TO DOWNTOWN TALLAHASSEE
The Tallahassee Downtown Improvement Authority (TDIA) website is designed to provide you with easy access to information relating to downtown Tallahassee. From places to dine and sightsee, all of that information is available from this site.
The TDIA authorizing legislation was created by an act of the Florida legislature in 1971, as a special assessment district. The mission of the TDIA is to promote downtown Tallahassee as a place for business and entertainment. The TDIA district boundaries are Tennessee Street on the north, Gadsden Street on the East, Jefferson Street on the south, and Bronough Street on the west (a color map of the TDIA district can be found on the maps tab).
A board of directors appointed by the Mayor and approved by the City of Tallahassee Commission governs the TDIA. Board members must be property owners and tax payers within the TDIA district.
Over its lifetime, the TDIA has assisted with reports and studies that have been instrumental in paving the way for the following projects and programs:
Eastside Parking Lot - TDIA bonds
Determined feasibility for Civic Center, City Hall, Leon County Courthouse, Annex, and Library, Kleman Plaza garage, Challenger Center, and Mary Brogan Museum.
Downtown GetDowns - TDIA initiated the GetDowns in the late 1980s. (Now coordinated and implemented by the United Way.)
Marketplace 15 years - Every Saturday March through November
CRA - TDIA instrumental in creation of the CRA (Community Redevelopment Agency).
Downtown Connectivity Plan - funded in part by the TDIA - a comprehensive plan for downtown pedestrian mobility for the government center.
Market feasibility study for: Civic Center, City Hall, Leon County Courthouse, Annex, Library, Kleman Plaza Garage, Challenger/Imax Center, and Mary Brogan Museum
Provided Industrial Revenue Bonds for Governors Inn, the Annex, and Highpoint Center.
The Board of Directors and staff of the TDIA are currently focused promoting downtown as a place for business and entertainment. You will find a complete listing of many of the events in downtown and environs on the events tab on this website. Again, welcome to the TDIA website. Please use this site as an information portal to many of the businesses and activities in Downtown Tallahassee.
